What a week last week was! Carson Group hosted Excell, our largest event of the year, in the awesome town of Nashville. If you were there, then you know how much fun it was. If you missed it, don’t worry, we’ll be back again in Orlando next year. We hope you can join us.
The Carson Investment Research Team was there and boy we were busy. It was so much fun to get to speak with our Partners about all the new things we’ve been creating to make their lives easier, while also hearing how they were doing and what else we could do for them. One of the best parts of being with Carson is we don’t have to force things on our Partners. A lot of big shops do that, but we prefer to listen to them and give them what they want.

So what all happened at Excell? I couldn’t ever summarize it in one blog, but it was more than 1,000 financial professionals getting together to learn the latest developments in our industry, ways to grow faster and more efficiently, listen to some amazing speakers, and have a great time in a really fun town.
What did I do? I hosted Day 2 of Excell, did multiple breakout segments, and recorded three future Facts vs Feelings podcasts. Not to mention got up early and stayed out late each night, soaking up as much time with our Partners as I could!
Here are some pictures from the week.
I hosted Day 2 with our President Teri Shepherd. Yes, there were some costume changes 😉
A fun breakout with Sonu Varghese, VP, Global Macro Strategist, and then two newer members of the team Barry Gilbert, VP, Asset Allocation Strategist, and Grant Engelbart, VP, Investment Strategist. Sonu and I are pretty proud of our Facts vs Feelings shirts!
Wearing my country western outfit before we hit the main stage with Carson’s Jessica Golson, SVP, Investments & Trading, and Erin Wood, SVP, Financial Planning & Advanced Solutions.
We recorded what we called “The Megapod” with Award-Winning Newsletter Writer and Founder of TKer.co Sam Ro, cofounder of Bespoke Investment Group Paul Hickey, and Founder and President of CappThesis, LLC Frank Cappelleri. Hard to believe we could do it all in under 40 minutes, but we made it.
Lastly, Sonu and I interviewed the great Cliff Asness, cofounder of AQR Capital Management, for a future Facts vs Feelings podcast. Well, maybe it wasn’t an interview as much as it was we asked him questions and he took over with some amazing stories and deep industry insight. This was a real treat, as Cliff is a legend in our industry.
I’ll end with this, something someone from another company said about Carson and Excell. He was at a large industry event last month and he said it was all about how fast ‘they’ were growing and how many advisors ‘they’ wanted to bring in over the coming years. He called it one big promo for how great they were, totally ignoring their Advisors that had been there with them for so many years. Then he noted that our event was all about how our Partners were doing, celebrating their successes, and doing all we could to make them grow faster.
I’ve been on both sides of this in my career now and I can say with full certainty, I’m on the right side of things now. If you are an Advisor and you are interested in learning more about us, don’t hesitate to reach out to me or check out our website.
I hope to see everyone at Excell next year!
